Job description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. The Manager of Business Intelligence will assist in establishing and executing a vision for delivering capital insights and BI solutions to the Capital Projects Group. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing a Business Intelligence (BI) system for CPG leadership, External Partners, Governance Committees, and the General Public. This is a hands-on role that will involve leading a team of BI developers and BI Analysts and working closely with the Data Architecture & Analytics team to acquire new data sets and sources. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical and business knowledge.

What will I be doing?

  • Establish and implement a BI strategic plan and road map which includes prioritizing, scoping, identifying resource requirements, timelines and managing the Analytics & Reporting project pipeline.
  • Strong proficiency to communicate in both technical and business terms to initiate and lead discussions with key stakeholders to determine Program / Project reporting requirements with a lens of the entire BI lifecycle, including dataset development and transformation, building and deploying visualizations in Power BI to increase data-driven strategic decision making.
  • Provides the technical expertise required to advance data and business intelligence maturity for CPG
  • Translate CPG Insights BI Roadmaps into executable plan in collaboration with the Data Architecture & Analytics team
  • Enables self-service analytics access capabilities that leverage data from Finance, Scheduling, Safety, Risk, Commercial and Quality functions; develops intelligent alert capabilities that automatically inform management and project delivery teams about anomalies.
  • Develop data solutions to advance the data literacy within the CPG organization including the build of data models to enable self-serve analytics and reporting
  • Work with I&IT and Business Systems to develop interactive BI tools, allowing the senior management team and Program Delivery teams to access Information easily and quickly, while maintaining data security; and work with the functional teams to achieve greater coordination and cross-functional collaboration
  • Develop logic and transformation rules that converts the raw data in to KPIs that will be used to manage the performance of CPG projects
  • Establish control rooms for business units and provide reporting support, specifically using visualization tools
  • Manages and directs a team of Senior BI Developers and Analysts and delivers timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit and the optimum use of team skills; manages staff and monitors work assignments to ensure adherence to timelines; monitors the achievement of performance objectives; develops and implements action plans to address performance gaps

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a Degree in a related field such as Data Analytics, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible experience in leading performance management, analyses, reporting, and business intelligence within a capital delivery / construction environment
  • Certifications or Designations – Certificate in Relational and Geospatial Data Analytics an asset.
  • Managerial or leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to plan, set priorities, schedule and lead, coach, motivate and manage staff.
  • Strong agile solution delivery skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Solid understanding of CPG business and operating environment is highly desirable. Experience in the construction industry
  • Proficiency in applying BI data orchestration to support CPG’s centralized data repository, a strong understanding of data platform architecture principles, and familiarity with cloud-based BI solutions (., MS Fabric, Power Platform, Azure Synapse Analytics) are a plus.
  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Power BI tools creating data models, data-rich dashboards, implementing row-level security, Power Query, Pipelines, Paginated Reports and DAX using Microsoft BI stack.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate information, identify and analyze issues, and develop recommendations
  • Experience with Azure data platform including Data Factory, Data Lake and Databricks
  • Leadership and management skills to manage a high performing team.
  • Interpersonal, oral / written / presentation skills to communicate with technical and business audience
