Job description

Special Education Teacher (Full-Time 1.0 Position) The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is a First Nation Education Authority serving the three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan; Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation. The Authority serves a total student population of approximately 1,300+ students. The Authority is working toward improved educational outcomes by utilizing the latest technology, progressively piloting programs, and integrating Denesuline culture into the classroom and school curriculum. The ADEA is seeking a competent, confident, motivated individual to fill the position of Special Education Teacher for 2024-2025 school year at Father Megret Elementary School (FMES), located in Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan. FMES is a Pre-K to Grade 5 facility with a student population of 200+, and a strong group of professional and paraprofessional staff. In this role, you will provide direct service to individual students and / or small groups of students. The percentage of time spent on direct instruction is dependent on student needs. The second role is to provide indirect service to support classroom teachers. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Establish clear instructional direction to support a positive learning climate in the context of the Denesuline culture and language. Works collaboratively as part of an instructional team to meet the diverse needs of students. Participates as a guiding team member in the development & management of the Inclusion & Intervention Plans (IIPs). Facilitate the referral process for school staff, caregivers / parents, and outside agencies. Strong understanding of Self-regulation program(s), learning abilities, Differentiation, Functional Integrated Programs (FIP), Alternate Education, Multi-Action Planning Systems (MAPS), Functional Behavior Assessments, etc. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Must be patient, flexible, observant, and passionate. Must have communications skills such as : verbal and nonverbal, active listening, and empathy. Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree, a teaching certificate or credential or equivalent professional experience which would translate to successful classroom teaching. Advanced degree preferred but not required. Must be eligible for or posses a valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate. Experience in teaching First Nations students at a remote community would be an asset. Related training or experience in the field of education would be a definite asset. Works collaboratively with school administration, school staff, parents / caregivers, and outside agencies. Effectively provides guidance and professional development to education staff. Being able to adapt and modify materials to assist in students completing instructional goals and objectives. Needs to be able to adapt and modify curricula to meet the needs of students. Takes a problem solving approach when dealing with challenging situations involving students, parents / caregivers, community members and staff. Maintain confidentiality of students and other professional information. At least 5 years teaching experience.
