The Centre was created to meet the needs and provide a place where the urban Aboriginal population could get together to access and share their culture and traditions.

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre is currently accepting applications for the position of Intake Worker.
The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre (HRIC) is a large Indigenous not for profit organization. We are culturally based and community focused, and committed to driving positive change for the community.

The Intake Worker under the direction of the Executive Director or designate, will be responsible for providing intakes, assessments, and referrals to community members accessing the HRIC’s supports and services.
The Intake worker will be the first point of contact to assess eligibility and provide support / service referrals to the appropriate programs.
Hours of Operation : Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm (8-hour shifts within these hours of operation), occasional evenings / weekends

HRIC is a highly flexible organization offering additional compensation including 5 paid cultural days, 4 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, paid shutdown over the Christmas holiday week, and health benefits.
HRIC health benefits are offered to full time permanent employees, employees will be able to enroll upon the successful completion of their (3) three-month probationary period.

Self-Identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
- Strong oral / written communication skills
- Social Service Worker, Indigenous Studies or other closely related field or a combination of 2 years education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities as determined by the employer
- A minimum of 2 years experience in providing support services in a community organization
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples is an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma
- Ability to assess the nature, eligibility, and the urgency of a request for service / supports
- Skilled in compiling and reporting on statistics and other relevant data
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in the areas of negotiation, facilitation, mediation, and problem solving
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment and to collaborate within a group setting
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention training and experience
- First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified
- Intermediate computer literacy skills including Microsoft 365 and databases
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is an asset
- Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a CPIC with Vulnerable Sector Search as a condition of the employment offer
