The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools requires a full-time Indigenous Liaison for St. Anne School for a one year term position.

Key function(s) :

The employee provides social emotional and academic support and guidance to Indigenous students. Additionally is a cultural interpreter role model and mentor of students and staff in understanding Indigenous culture.

Job Qualifications :

At least one (1) year of experience working with Indigenous Family Support Community Support Worker or similar type position.

Certificate / diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution related to Indigenous studies or Child and Youth or Social Work diploma or other equivalent combinations of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience will be considered.

Access to vehicle and valid class 5 drivers license

Requirements :

Knowledge and ability to work effectively with Indigenous students and families

Ability to work cooperatively with parents school and community agencies

Excellent organizational report writing and time management skills are essential

Must be comfortable with home visits

Ability to organize cultural events and to bring speakers and resources to support our Indigenous educational programs

Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture is essential

Knowledge of Cree and Dene languages is beneficial

Experience working with students with learning difficulties and training in literacy-numeracy are assets

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail Internet and MS Office.
