We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior Concept Artist to join our Star Wars team. Our ideal candidate for this position is highly experienced with game development workflows, and has a proven track record of creating stunning and appealing concepts for environments in particular, but also characters and everything in between.
In this role you will create artwork that inspires game designers, informs world builders, and helps set the visual tone of the game.
We are picturing someone with a passion for game development and the ability to both inspire and execute, who can embrace our game development philosophy and share their hard earned expertise to create an incredible experience for our players.
This is a 12 month temporary position with a potential to extend to 18 months.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate closely with Game Director, Art Director, and departments such as game design, narrative, character art, rigging, and animation to deliver concepts that inspire and fit within vision for the game.
- Set the quality bar for the department through hands-on creation of concepts everything from early inspirational to final detail concepts and props to support various departments.
Artwork may include anything from loose speed paintings to polished key art to 3D paintovers.
- Inspire the entire department to constantly raise the quality bar, develop solutions, and work well with other departments.
- Work with production staff to establish realistic schedules and deadlines, and demonstrate accountability towards adhering to schedule.
- Support and maintain department standards, and guide process enhancements for the Concept Art pipeline as needed.
Ideally, you will have.. .
- 5+ years’ experience as a Concept Artist.
- Ability to lead by example, in both quality of work and professional conduct.
- Previous games industry and shipped AAA game(s) preferred. Experience working on a third-person action / exploration game is a plus.
- Well-rounded portfolio showcasing your work, with a focus on beautiful and inspirational concept art pieces and examples of production sketches focused on solving specific problems.
Portfolios should show quality, taste, and an eye for visually compelling, immersive environments.
- Strong ability to design both interior and exterior environments, from furnished occupiable spaces to grand vistas.
- Strong ability to design appealing characters, creatures, props.
- Strong understanding of composition, leading the eye with light, staging, proportion, scale, value, perspective, lighting, and color.
- Strong design and illustration skills.
- Familiarity with Star Wars.
- Mastery of standard art packages such as Photoshop and related software. Experience with Maya and / or Unreal is a plus.
- Additional concept art skills a plus (characters, matte painting, etc.)
- Basic understanding of 3D art, experience creating designs to be translated into 3D.
- Ability to handle critique and fearlessness in the face of feedback. You can take a change in direction as an opportunity to improve a design and you pivot quickly;
the more feedback you receive, the more you can tailor your work towards what is best for the game.
- Ability to self-critique as needed.
- A positive, solution-oriented attitude.
- Enjoyment in the process of taking a project from inception to completion.
- Passion for making and playing games.
- Strong traditional and / or 3D art skills are a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the range and benefits for your specific location.

Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES
California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento) :
º $122,400 - $176,300 USD Annually
New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo) :
º $115,700 - $176,300 USD Annually
Jersey City, NJ :
º $142,000 - $176,300 USD Annually
Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs) :
º $131,000 - $174,800 USD Annually
Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane) :
º $115,700 - $163,100 USD Annually
British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) :
º $107,600 - $147,100 CAN Annually
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical / dental / vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity. For British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI / QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental / adoption leave), extended health / dental / vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees.
Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
