Recruitment Advisor – Human Resources
STATUS : Permanent; Full‑Time
SHIFT : 35 hours per week – Hybrid
Summary of the Position
Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller provides expert support in the preparation of financial reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. The primary focus is on making significant contributions to the financial operations of the Society, including reporting of revenue, submission of expenses and maintenance of internal financial controls.
Main Responsibilities
- Leads senior accountants and other finance professionals in the preparation of internal and external financial reporting.
- Prepares monthly internal reporting for managers.
- Supports the annual budget in conjunction with various levels of management and board direction.
- Analyzes financial data to assist management in ensuring sound business decisions are made throughout the organization.
- Participates in systems implementations and enforcement of process controls.
- Assists in year‑end audit process and completes external reporting to provincial and federal government bodies.
- Provides expertise and contributes to improvements in the active monitoring of cash‑flow forecasts and the investing function.
- Contributes to the strategic direction of the financial reporting function and a culture of innovation, teamwork and agility.
- Demonstrates behaviors supporting diversity, equity and inclusion and workplace health, safety and wellness within the finance team and on any cross‑functional working groups.
Knowledge and Skills Required for the Position
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in finance, accounting and / or investments, including at least 3 years in a financial reporting function; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge of accounting principles and practices (GAAP and accounting standards for not‑for‑profits).Experience with not‑for‑profit accounting and financial systems (e.g., Financial Edge, Budget Management and forecasting software).Proficiency in data analysis, technology and automation to improve finance effectiveness and efficiency.Strong leadership skills : responsible for hiring, onboarding, performance management, and terminations; provides coaching and mentorship.Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills with ability to influence cross‑functional teams.Demonstrated ability to navigate competing priorities, resolve conflict and adapt to change.Philosophical alignment with the BC SPCA’s vision, mission and strategic directions.How to Apply
