The Fleet Services Superintendent will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the City's diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment.

Reporting to the Director of Public Works, this key leadership position will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and management of the City's fleet assets to support various municipal services.

As Fleet Services Superintendent you will be responsible for a staff of 15 technical and administrative staff and the City’s Fleet of over 300 pieces of equipment (vehicles, construction maintenance equipment, firefighting equipment and parks maintenance equipment).

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Fleet Services team, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive fleet management strategies, maintenance programs, and operational policies to ensure the reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness of the fleet.
  • Manage the fleet budget, including procurement, financial planning, and resource allocation, while optimizing cost-efficiency.
  • Develop, implement and monitor carbon reduction initiatives related to fleet operations and the City’s Corporate Energy goals.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to understand their fleet needs and ensure the availability of well-maintained vehicles and equipment to support municipal operations.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in fleet management technologies, recommending and implementing relevant innovations.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and environmental policies in all fleet-related activities.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting mechanisms to track fleet performance and identify areas for improvement.

The technical, managerial / supervisory, and administrative nature of this role requires a well-rounded individual who is capable of making independent decisions related to the operation of the City fleet and garage.

Ideally you will have :

  • Eligibility for certification with the ASTTBC in a relevant field or a Mechanical TQ
  • 5 7 years’ related progressive experience, including supervisory or leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance best practices, vehicle / equipment specifications, and relevant industry regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
