Job description

1.0 FTE Learning Resource Teacher

JLJ Jackson Secondary School

This is a temporary assignment effective immediately to June 30, 2026.

Qualifications

Master's degree or Diploma / Certificate in Special Education
Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch
A senior leave course and experience in Level B testing
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (or willingness to train)

Teachers applying for this position should possess the following attributes :

Evidence of excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills in working with staff, students and parents

Experience in competency based IEP development using MyED BC

Trauma sensitive practices

Ability to schedule and direct Certified Education Assistants and Education Support Worker(s)

Demonstrated experience in providing behavioural assessment

General knowledge of the renewed curriculum for middle school programs

Demonstrated ability to work collegially and as part of the school based team

Ability to relate effectively to middle school students

Current knowledge of and interest in applications of computer technology

Comfortable in working with students who struggle with grade level Math and Language Arts

Comfortable and confident working with support high incidence students

Successful recent experience working with students with special needs

Committed to stimulating student interest and confidence in learning

Excellent classroom management skills

Successful classroom teaching experience

Demonstrated ability to use a variety of current instructional strategies and assessment methods

The Learning Resource Teacher Is Responsible For

Designing, supervising and assessing student growth and effectiveness of educational programs / determining effective teaching strategies and practices

Assisting classroom teachers with assessment and evaluation of students / determining methods of evaluating progress and reporting achievement
