Faculty Member, Biostatistics in Population, Public, Clinical Health, Health Services Research

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a tenure track biostatistics faculty position at the assistant professor level in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology, College of Medicine.

The research area is focused on biostatistical methods for population and public health, clinical, or health services research.

Other responsibilities will include serving as the director of the Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU), graduate level teaching and supervision of graduate student and post-doctoral research projects within the department, and in a biostatistics graduate program jointly offered with the department of Math and Statistics and the School of Public Health.

Participation in relevant administrative activities, committee work, public and professional service appropriate to rank are also expected.

The Department (

The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is a dynamic, cohesive academic department comprising 18 faculty and 34 associates and adjuncts.

We have active graduate programs and make a vital contribution to the undergraduate education of medical and health sciences students, and postgraduate education with the Public Health and Preventative Medicine Residency Program.

Housed within the department, the CRSU offers multi-faceted research assistance to all faculty members, residents, students, and researchers within the College of Medicine.

Investigators across the clinical, biomedical, and population health sciences can access support for study design, sample size / power calculation, data management, analysis, and manuscript revision.

Some qualitative research support is also available. The CRSU offers workshops and 1 credit unit short courses on the use of software ( SAS, NVivo) to support quantitative and qualitative data analysis as well as research data management.

Areas of current research excellence in the department include child health, Indigenous peoples’ health, global health, environmental health, social epidemiology, health inequities, biostatistical applications to chronic disease, public health practice, and knowledge exchange.

An emphasis on health equity, social justice, and community engagement underpins all our work. We have strong relationships with diverse community-based organizations and government agencies and partner with research units such as the Saskatchewan Population Health Research and Evaluation Unit, the Public Health Observatory (SHA), the Canadian Centre for Rural and Agricultural Health, and the Community-University Institute for Social Research.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a PhD in Biostatistics or equivalent discipline. Applicants with experience in Machine Learning, Bayesian Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or Longitudinal Data Analysis are especially invited to apply.

Post-doctoral experience in areas of application such as biostatistical methods for population and public health, clinical or health services research relevant to this posting would be considered an asset.

A record of research excellence will be reflected in the number and quality of peer-reviewed publications and demonstration of potential to attract external research funding, and development of libraries or packages for statistical analyses.

Candidates must have strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and engagement skills, and capacity to create and sustain partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

The current salary band for Assistant Professor is $ 99,945-120,099.
