The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban / rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting a Public Works Engineering Co-op Student.
Position Responsibilities
The usual responsibilities of the position are :
- Provides support to Operations and Capital teams with a variety of operational and technical tasks;
- Assists with traffic studies, construction inspections, topographic and infrastructure surveys, and GIS data integration;
- Supports sign retro-reflectivity assessments and inventory into the Township's Computerized Maintenance Management System;
- Aids in tracking and analyzing roads maintenance programs, including meeting Minimum Maintenance Standards;
- Assists with utility locate requests, including ordering, compiling, and coordinating responses;
- Creates and updates work orders and helps organize and maintain engineering drawings and records of existing infrastructure;
- Participates in data collection and reporting to support asset management and capital planning initiatives;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
All applicants must provide confirmation of post-secondary full time student status in current academic year and / or acceptance into full time studies in September 2026;Must be currently enrolled in or have completed a University or College Program in Engineering (preferably Civil) or related discipline;The successful applicant should possess strong verbal and written communication skills;Ability to work inside and outside for long periods of time;Skills and experience in administrative roles, surveying, inspecting construction works or project experience is considered an asset;Experience with AutoCAD, Excel and Arcmap GIS software is considered an asset;Ability to problem solve and work in a team environment;Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions;Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with staff and the public in an effective and courteous manner;A valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s Licence Class G2 required (Ontario Driver’s Licence Class G preferred) with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour. Successful applicants will be required to provide the Township with a copy of their drivers’ licence and submit a driver's abstract to verify a driving record in good standing as a condition of employment;Successful candidates must abide by Ontario Health & Safety Legislation and follow Township Health and Safety Policies;Successful candidates will be required to provide their own CSA approved safety boots to be worn daily.Rate of Pay
The rate of pay is $21.68 per hour (2025 rate) plus vacation pay and statutory holidays as per the Employment Standards Act.
Hours of Work
This position will work 35 hours per week. Successful incumbents must be available to work exclusively from May to Labour Day.
