Manual Machinist

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Sets up and operates manual lathes manual milling machines drill presses presses grinders saws and other machines to construct or repair primarily carbon parts but can also work with various metals.

SPECI FIC DUTIES ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :

• Works from factory work orders prints written specifications sketches or verbal instructions.
• Uses all necessary machinists hand tools including scrapers chisels files and measuring instruments.
• Utilizes knowledge of shop mathematics charts and tables. Uses standard bolts screws threads and tapers etc. to efficiently plan work.
• Utilizes knowledge of working properties of carbon aluminum brass and alloy steels.
• Works to required tolerances and is responsible for quality of work produced.
• Responsible to notify supervisor of tooling requirements.
• Grinds own tools of high-speed steel satellite or carbide.
• Follows preventative maintenance procedures as outlined by machine manufacture or supervisors.
• May be required to assist in machine repair.
• Keeps machine and work area clean and orderly.
• Keeps machine lubricated.
• Makes proper job and time reports for timekeeping and tracking.
• Instructs other machine operators as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned utilizing normal skill and ability of the current position.
• Remains aware and follows all health and safety practices. Works in a safe fashion and reports any concerns to supervisor.
