Position Summary
The Princess Margaret Genomics Centre is seeking a full-time Research Technician II, with potential for advancement within the PMGC team.
The successful candidate will also contribute to QC of client-submitted sequence-ready libraries. As an integral member at the Genomics Centre, a core facility, the research technician must be dedicated and result-driven and will be involved in all aspects of service projects, following SOPs and meeting target deadlines.
Duties
Working under the direction of senior staff, the successful applicant will utilize SOPs to :
- Perform genomics library preparation (RNA, whole genome, exome).
- This includes QC of input material (RNA and DNA), following SOPs for construction, and QC of the final products.
- Onboarding of samples from and communication with clients
- RNA-seq library production
- Whole genome and exome library production
- DNA epigenetic profiling (ATAC, methylation) library construction
- Input sample QC by BioAnalyzer, Nanodrop, and fluorimetry
- Final library QC by BioAnalyzer
- Entry of sample and library information into LIMS
Qualifications
- BSc in genomics, molecular biology or related discipline is required
- 3 years related experience is required.
- At least 1 year of experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques is required, such as : PCR reaction set up and purificationqPCR reaction assembly and data interpretation Nucleic acid quantification by spectrophotometry and fluorimetry
- Experience with using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is an asset
- Experience with Illumina DNA sequencing library construction workflows is an asset
- A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and accurately under deadlines
- Meticulous and detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
