DYWIDAG is seeking a proactive and collaborative Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Coordinator to support our Canadian manufacturing plants located in Surrey, BC and Stouffville, ON, as well as our construction field operations across Canada. The HSE Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs across DYWIDAGs Canadian manufacturing plants located in Surrey, BC and Stouffville, ON, as well as supporting construction field operations throughout Canada. This role ensures compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations while fostering a proactive, engaged safety culture across diverse work environments, including precast / industrial production facilities and active job sites.
The HSE Coordinator works closely with plant leadership, field supervisors, engineering teams, and corporate stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and operational risk management.
Essential Functions
- Develop, maintain, and implement HSE programs aligned with applicable Canadian legislation, environmental regulations, and DYWIDAG corporate policies.
- Support both manufacturing facilities and field construction operations, tailoring safety programs to the unique risks of each environment.
- Conduct regular reviews of safety policies and procedures to ensure relevance, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Coordinate, deliver, and document HSE training, ensuring employees meet regulatory and company training requirements.
- Lead and manage incident reporting and investigations; conduct root cause analyses and oversee corrective / preventive action implementation.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret HSE data to identify trends and opportunities for risk reduction.
- Perform routine site inspections, shop-floor audits, and construction jobsite walkthroughs to identify hazards and verify adherence to safety standards.
- Prepare clear and actionable reports, communicating findings to operations, project management, and senior leadership.
- Monitor regulatory updates and industry best practices; revise company policies as needed to maintain compliance.
- Serve as primary contact with regulatory agencies during inspections, reporting processes, and compliance review activities.
- Coordinate environmental compliance activities such as waste management, air quality, chemical handling, and spill response.
- Maintain and improve emergency response plans for plants and field sites; organize drills and ensure workforce readiness.
- Foster a strong, engaged safety culture by promoting open communication, involvement, and continuous improvement in all areas of HSE
Core Competencies
In-depth knowledge of Canadian HSE legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.Working understanding of U.S. regulatory requirements for cross-border operations.Experience implementing and managing ISO-based systems (ISO 45001, ISO 9001) is preferred, but not required.Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills applicable to both manufacturing and construction settings.Ability to collaborate across departments and work independently with minimal supervision.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and coach employees at all levels.Commitment to developing and sustaining a proactive, positive safety culture.Travel Requirements
Travel between 2550% within Canada, primarily between Surrey, BC; Stouffville, ON; and field project locations.Occasional travel to U.S. operations as required.Physical Demands
Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours).Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.Capability to navigate and inspect construction or industrial environments (e.g., stairs, ladders, uneven surfaces).Other Duties
