Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide direction, leadership, and management to the shipping and logistics team. Establish and administer policies, processes, and procedures to effectively manage resources and drive continuous improvement to meet the business needs. Provide leadership and mentorship to the Warehouse Supervisor and oversee all warehouse activities, ensuring best and safe practices. Ensure the achievement of daily, monthly and annual performance targets.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain a High Level of Safety, and 5S

  • Collaborate with collaborators to ensure compliance with established safety programs
  • Ensure accident / incident investigations are conducted and documented in a timely manner
  • Promote proactive identification and elimination of workplace hazards
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.
  • Ensure the working areas are kept neat and tidy and that a robust 5S program is in place and sustained

Manage Employees

  • Ensure all team members are treated in an equal and fair manner, abiding by the company Policies & Standards of Conduct
  • Lead, coach, and mentor staff to develop their skills and abilities
  • Ensure the Department is adequately staffed, with sufficient cross-training and back-up support to meet business requirements optimizing productivity and asset utilization.
  • Manage vacation, overtime, and absence schedules
  • Administer the Performance Evaluation process
  • Manage the Performance Improvement Program
  • Direct reports include : Team Leads, Shipping and Logistics; Supervisor, Warehouse & Supplies; Customs and Logistics Associates; Packaging Associates
  • Manage Import / Export Compliance

  • Oversee all aspects of trade compliance for inbound and outbound shipments
  • Ensure the preparation and maintenance of accurate documentation related to shipments, including customs declarations, bills of lading, and certificates of origin
  • Ensure that all required documentation is submitted in a timely manner to avoid delays in customs clearance
  • Meticulous record-keeping to aid in audits, dispute resolution, and traceability of shipments
  • Collaborate with transport service providers and brokers to efficiently complete processes, assisting in acquiring permits, and preparing accurate documentation.
  • Communicate and explain regulatory requirements to our collaborators, customers, partners, and team members within the organization.
  • Ensure Achievement of Performance Targets and Report Performance

  • Establish and maintain safety, quality, delivery and cost performance goals aligned to Operations objectives
  • Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators, monitor and report performance on Dashboards and A-3’s identifying specific issues and gap closure plans
  • Identify and analyze areas where performance goals are not being achieved. Investigate and provide explanations for any shortcomings. Develop strategies to address and improve the situation.
  • Attend Tier 2 and 3 meetings to monitor daily performance and Work-in-Process backlogs providing feedback and direction to resolve issues and meet performance targets.
  • Identify and resolve any significant equipment, material or information flow issues
  • Ensure routine communication sessions are scheduled and deliver presentations as the need arises.
  • Ensure compliance with Health Canada regulations and current company policies and procedures, specifically regarding controlled substances
  • Perform Other Duties

  • Perform other duties and complete additional projects as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Competencies Required

  • Proven experience of 5+ years in logistics roles in related industries
  • Minimum 2 years in a people leadership position with direct reports-preferably a management role
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, negotiate and collaborate with different collaborators
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Experience with Lean processes and methodologies is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in identification and resolution of problems
  • International logistics network experience an asset
  • Education

    Bachelor's degree in supply chain studies or equivalent experience, preferably with a supply chain certificate
