Job description

Accounting Analyst for not for profit community services client, downtown Toronto.

Marberg Job Number : 2496.

Job Type :  Temporary.

Initial Term : February 10 - April 25, 2025.

Compensation :  $41.66 per hour.

Regular Work Hours : FULL TIME HOURS : From 9 am to 5 pm not including 1 hour unpaid lunch break, Monday to Friday (35.0 work hours per week).

Work Location :  100% onsite at client's downtown Toronto office, near TTC station.

Responsibilities Summary :

To support range of accounting, financial analysis and financial reporting processes, including monthly and quarterly close of AR and AP sub-ledgers, preparation of journal entries and payment requisitions, maintenance of various schedules and supporting documents, and analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.

  • Prepare month-end journal entry adjustments, accruals and corrections in order to accurately reflect financial information.
  • Prepare Fixed Asset Capitalization and Amortization entries, update schedules and maintain backup documents.
  • Analyze financial records, reconcile G / L accounts and bank accounts, and investigate and address any discrepancies and communicate with stakeholders accordingly.
  • Responsible for accounts receivable / cost recoveries and record keeping, including review and interpretation of agreements and preparation of billings. Will close and balance sub-ledger reports to GL.
  • Prepare payment requisitions for payroll deductions such as United Way, Union dues, Credit Union, WSIB and others as required. Reconcile salaries and wages advance accounts.
  • Reconcile General Leger Balance Sheet accounts and maintain related reconciliation schedules.
  • Act as custodian of cheques, bank letters, stock storage, sign out books, storage keys, and gift cards. Monitor supplies and initiate restocking.
  • Perform financial reporting and account analyses for auditors as requested.
  • Contribute to designated department projects and act as back-up to other financial staff as required.
  • Additional accounting analyst responsibilities as required.

Qualifications :

Education :  Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in Finance, Business or Accounting.

Professional Credentials : Completion or working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or equivalent).

Preferred Work Experience :  Approximately 3 years of related experience in accounting and financial analysis.

Preferred Sector Experience : Not for profit or public sector accounting experience preferred.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements :

  • Advanced MS Excel skills (will be tested).
  • Experience interacting with relational databases and BI tools.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines.
  • Focused and able to work effectively with minimal direction and supervision, to prioritize tasks effectively, and to manage volume targets and due dates.
  • Pleasant and courteous. Demonstrated commitment to client service and professional representation of the organization.
  • Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
  • Superior attention to detail, and organized, methodical approach to completion of tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
  • Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
