Our client, a leading company in the Real Estate industry, is seeking a skilled Controller to join their team. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy of financial information, implement internal controls, and provide strategic financial guidance.
This opportunity is a full-time, permanent position based in Ottawa on a hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and enforce accounting procedures and policies to ensure compliance with standards while leading and inspiring the Accounting Team.
- Maintain accurate accounting records, oversee payroll, and ensure timely reconciliations and payment of source deductions.
- Ensure financial compliance and timely financial statement reporting and manage statutory report submissions in coordination with the Director of Reporting and Manager of Tax & Compliance.
- Manage insurance for all entities and ensure compliance with internal controls over financial reporting and cash disbursements.
- Oversee financial report preparation, perform financial risk assessments, and manage the Standard Fee and costing models.
- Coordinate debt and equity forecasts with the Capital team and ensure proper ERP system setup.
- Control the financial close process, addressing audit and compliance questions promptly, and assisting with corporate financial decision-making.
- Optimize enterprise software, provide training and support to operating units, and participate in strategic and tactical planning.
- Oversee annual corporate budget preparation, monitor projected financial performance, and maintain strong relationships with operational managers and directors to achieve organizational goals.
Qualifications :
- CPA designation, or a combination of an accounting degree and extensive experience.
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in the real estate industry.
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and managerial skills with a proven ability to provide direction and inspire a team.
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with Yardi and Newstar or other ERP systems is considered an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of cost and financial accounting procedures, protocols, analysis, and reporting.
- Expertise in the cost-effective utilization and optimization of ERP systems and the IT environment.
- Strong project management experience, capable of developing, monitoring, and evaluating ongoing projects with multiple deliverables and deadlines.
- Excellent research and analytical skills for processing large volumes of information efficiently.
