In this role, you'll tackle challenges head-on by programming, configuring, and integrating new automation systems while ensuring they run smoothly. You'll also be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining all automation equipment and ensure preventative maintenance to peak efficiency.

If you have experience in the manufacturing sector and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and spend time in the factories to advance a project or support your team, this opportunity is for you!

  • Troubleshoot existing automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, Industrial Robots, Variable Frequency Drives, Fieldbus Networks & Industrial Communication Networks.
  • Program, configure and integrate new automation systems such as PLCs, HMIs, Robots, VFDs, Fieldbus Devices & Communication Networks to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Handle electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting to ensure system stability and performance.
  • Partner with the maintenance team to identify, diagnose, and resolve machine issues effectively.
  • Automation system optimisations to increase machine productivity and reduce downtimes.
  • Identify potential safety risks and implement measures to ensure a secure work environment.
  • Analysis of industrial safety systems, programming and configuration.
  • Maintain electrical drawings and other automation related documentation up to date.
  • Provide training to the production team on automation equipment operations methods.
  • Coordinate with other departments for anything related to automation, including production, maintenance and IT departments.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for larger automation projects to ensure timely and effective implementation.

Qualifications

  • Electrodynamic and / or Instrumentation Technical Degree.
  • 3 years + experience in Industrial Automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Industrial PLC and HMI programming and configuration experience (Siemens S7 / TIA required, other types of PLCs and HMIs are a plus).
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (SEW, Siemens etc.).
  • Experience with industrial fieldbuses, including Profibus, Profinet, ASi etc.
  • Strong understanding of electrotechnical and process control concepts.
  • Electrical troubleshooting skills and ability to read and interpret electrical plans.
  • Basic networking skills with Ethernet (routers, switches, protocols, OSI Model).
  • Experience with industrial Safety Systems (ASi Safe, Profisafe).
  • Experience with Industrial Robots (ABB, Yaskawa).
  • Programming experience for Industrial Robots (ABB Rapid, Motoman Inform) is a plus.
  • Comfortable using AutoCAD for maintaining electrical drawings.
  • Advanced PC skills, ability to configure and troubleshoot PC applications, networking and hardware.
  • PC Programming skills (C, C++, C#, Visual Basic) is a plus.
  • Ability to execute basic low-voltage electrical work.
  • Excellent problem solving and skills and ability to troubleshoot under pressure to minimize downtime.
  • Quick learner, self-starter, and resourceful in finding the information you need.
  • Good communication skills—both verbal and written in English and French—are essential (English is necessary to serve our customers in the USA).
  • A Day in the life!

Your day begins at 8 am, and you're ready to dive into the design and development of a new automation project. You start by reviewing the electrical schematics to map out the control system. But before you get too far, you're interrupted by engineers from the next project in line, who need your input on the machine's overall functionality and assistance with selecting the right control components.

After providing your expertise, you return to your original project, only to receive a call from the maintenance department. One of our factories is down due to a technical issue—though it's with a system you didn’t design, and the program is in German. Without hesitation, you head to the factory floor, working closely with the maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve the issue quickly, minimizing downtime.

Back at your desk, you refocus on your primary project. You carefully select the automation components to be used, including a new device that requires some extra attention. You quickly gather all necessary documentation from online sources and familiarize yourself with the device’s functionality and wiring requirements. After ensuring everything is in order, you validate and update the electrical schematics, addressing any discrepancies and mitigating potential safety risks. You communicate with your colleagues to ensure that the project timeline stays on track and any issues are resolved promptly.

With the schematics and components in place, you begin building the automation solution. You program the PLC, configure inverters, and integrate safety devices. While the physical machine is still under construction, you visualize how the system will work in your mind, refining the program and ensuring all parts will integrate smoothly when the machine is fully assembled.

Throughout the day, you balance between strategic planning, technical problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration to ensure successful project execution!!
