Our organization is an integrated system of hospitals : Whitehorse General Hospital (58 beds), Watson Lake Community Hospital (6 beds) and Dawson City Community Hospital (6 beds).
- Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the incumbent is responsible for pharmacy services in the hospital which include : the provision of a medication distribution system that meets the needs of the patients and optimizes safety, efficiency and economy;
- pharmacotherapy monitoring which includes patient-specific assessment of medications based on diagnoses, allergies, laboratory tests and adverse effects;
- pharmaceutical care, which includes participating in development and monitoring of a therapeutic plan to improve the patient’s quality of life;
and quality assurance which ensures that the optimal delivery of patient-focused care is incorporated into daily practice.
The Pharmacist is also responsible for pharmaceutical services (distribution & clinical) to community healthcare facilities.

- Excellent organizational and decision- making skills;

- Current knowledge of pharmaceutical advances and changes;
- Excellent verbal and written communication;
- Excellent research skills and ability to prepare reports and correspondence;
- Ability to function with a computer;
- Ability to deal with interruptions and time pressures and prioritize concurrent demands;
- Knowledge of established policies and procedures in department and hospital-wide;
- Knowledge of professional standards & guidelines;
- Cross-cultural awareness and confidentiality;
- Effective interpersonal skills including discretion, tact and reliability.
The successful candidate is required to have a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited program of study, be licensed as a Pharmacist in the Yukon or able to get licensed, and a Certificate of qualification from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC).
Desired but not essential for this position; completion of a pharmacy residency program, Masters in Clinical Pharmacy, membership in the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacy, experience with Meditech;
and, a class 5 driver’s license. Three to five years experience in a clinical hospital pharmacy setting would be considered an asset for this position.
