Language Quality Manager (Canadian French)
This role is part-time (20 hours a week) and temporary for 6 months but may extend to 2025.
This role is 100% remote, but will require onsite meetings in Montreal infrequently.
Position Summary
The Language Quality Manager (LQM) is responsible for maintaining the quality of Canadian French language translations, coordinating language activities, and overseeing the quality assurance process.
This role involves reviewing the work of translation vendors to ensure it meets the necessary quality standards and criteria for specific use cases.
The quality framework and methodology used is the Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM) and the main translation tool is the Amazon Translation Management System (ATMS).
The LQM arbitrates differences between in-country staff and vendors and documents updates for entry into linguistic assets such as glossaries, style guides, and translation memories.
Additionally, this role oversees the continual improvement of glossaries and style guides in their language.
What You Will Do
- Client Focus : Understand and prioritize the interests of both external and internal clients to guide the Localization Quality Program.
- Feedback Management : Handle feedback from in-country staff on translated content such as training materials, templates, and web pages.
- Quality Maintenance : Ensure the quality and relevance of Translation Memories to enhance both human and machine translation productivity.
- Quality Metrics Analysis : Analyze quality metrics and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Continuous Improvement : Develop and replicate best practices across languages and projects for lasting improvement.
- Supplemental Resource : Assist other LQM teams with high-profile, time-sensitive quality review projects.
- Subject Matter Expertise : Maintain training in linguistics and translation technology to serve as a subject matter expert.
To Be Successful You Will Have
- 3+ years in language management / translation, particularly in localization.
- 5+ years as an editor or reviewer, with experience in checking and improving localized content, providing linguistic feedback, and managing terminology and reference materials.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Languages / Translation
- Language Skills : Native fluency in Canadian French and advanced English.
- Technical Knowledge : Understanding of IT cloud infrastructure.
- Sector Knowledge : Good knowledge of public sector processes and the legal framework locally and internationally.
- Deep understanding of language quality and translation tools.
