The impact dynamics team within the Structure Systems department is responsible forsimulating fan blade off containment, bird ingestion, and other extreme conditions using large physics-based simulations. The impact dynamics intern will be responsible forprogressing and implementing current research projectsin collaboration with other team members. She / he assumes responsibility for several components of a project. He contributes to the team or department by applying knowledge of several functional areas.The goal is to implementimproved impact dynamics analytical methods based on current research to support cutting edgeaerospace engine development.

What your day to day will look like :
Review past and current research relevant to aerospace impact dynamics
Review past fan blade off, bird ingestion, and bench test data
Propose and plan additional testing to support improved analysis methods
Implement research-basedimprovements in fan blade off and bird ingestion models
Document improved methods including simulation setup and correlation to test

Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively
Coursework in solid mechanics, dynamics, finite element method
Experience with finite element analysis and associated software (ex. LS Dyna, ANSYS, HyperWorks)
Organized and methodical approach to projects including documentation
