Key Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the complete design of energy management and control systems for commercial and institutional buildings such as airports, hospitals and academic institutions to ensure the safety and comfort of building occupants. You are responsible to integrate the control of various heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and mechanical equipment under a central monitoring and control system; the Building Automation System (BAS). Your role involves the creation of shop-drawings including control schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules, bill of materials lists and sequence of operations for installation, programming and commissioning purposes.
- Reviewing project documentation such as specifications, mechanical and electrical drawings to create control drawings as per customer design standards;
- Reviewing project documentation such as equipment shop-drawings, mechanical plans and specifications to identify any equipment compatibility issues and design discrepancies;
- Communicating any issues with the design of equipment shop-drawings, mechanical plans and specifications, as well as alternate design recommendations to engineering consultants for clarification / approval;
- Selecting materials including DDC modules, field sensing and control devices, dampers, valves and actuators to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes and customer standards;
- Writing sequence of operations based on HVAC principles that relate to temperature, humidity and flow control (both hydronic and air flow) and according to building codes and ASHRAE standards;
- Coordinating design requirements with the Project Manager and field team to provide a cost-effective design solution;
- Completing each assigned project focusing on customer satisfaction and specification compliance while trying to maintain budgetary guidelines covered in sales estimates;
- Identifying all projects that do not meet budget and itemizing the budget variances;
- Managing material procurement, requesting quotations and submitting material order forms for all project required materials to the purchasing group;
- Assisting the sales team in pre-bid meetings and evaluation of tender drawings to capture project scope;
- Proposing energy saving opportunities to the client wherever applicable;
- Conducting site visits and collaborating with clients and contractors on technical issues;
- Developing commissioning checklists for the field team to follow and record observations during start-up and commissioning of BAS systems; and
- Issuing Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals for supplied systems, equipment and devices.
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a College Diploma in one of the following disciplines : Building Automation Systems / Electrical / Controls and Automation / HVAC.3+ years experience with HVAC and / or BAS (Building Automation System Protocols) : BACnet / MSTP, BACnet / IP, Modbus.3+ years experience with Computer Networking Systems.3+ years experience with DDC (Direct Digital Control Systems) and applications pertaining to the HVAC / Control.3+ years experience with CAD Tools (preferably with Visio, or with any similar CAD tool : example : AutoCAD)5+ years experience with Microsoft Suite (Ms Word, Excel) at a proficient level.1+ years experience with Building Automation System Programming.Preferred Qualifications (assets) :
