The Senior Payroll Specialist reports to the Director of Payroll & Accounting and is expected to process payroll, assist with budgeting, and monthly and year-end statement preparation, annual payroll audit as well as benefit administration, annual T4 and other government reporting, and the ongoing set-up, maintenance and improvement of payroll and budgeting systems.
Wage : The starting annual salary is $60,000.

Responsibilities :
- Ensures that the department maintains compliance, which is consistent with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles internal policies / procedures, collective bargaining unit agreements, Employment Standards
- Ability to problem solve, conflict resolution skills.
- Supervision of Bookkeepers in payroll processing and preparation of bi-weekly payroll and annual reporting.
- Demonstrates good knowledge of Collective Agreements, Employment Standards Act and Labour Relations Act
- Conducts regular audits of facility systems, both computerized and supporting manual sub-systems.
- Participates in annual external audit of facilities.
- Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators
- Payroll and related accounting functions are completed accurately and on time including, but not limited to :
Assisting with setup and maintenance of the facility payroll systems
Assist with creating payroll journal entries files in GLI and post to NetSuite for all homesAssistance with maintenance of group benefits plansPreparation of payroll clearing GL account analysis monthlyReview Payroll Payables for centralized payrolls & as needed for homes with vacant bookkeeper positionTraining & Support homes as neededProcess WSIB reporting & premium paymentsConduct Annual Payroll AuditAssist homes with mass retro payments & vacation roll-over audit and importCalculate payroll manual payments in ADP & process the payment in NetSuiteAnnual WSIB & EHT ReconciliationPreparation of T4 reconciliation for all homes, including following up on CRA NOAPayroll processingAssisting with ADP implementation for new homesPreparation of specific Ministry of Health annual reportsOversee year-end payroll process and tax formsAssistance with preparation of budgets, annually and as neededAssistance with preparation of monthly statementsOversee year-end payroll process and tax formsQualifications :
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows :
PCP designation is required.Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administrationMinimum 10 years payroll setup with ADP or Ceridian and accounting experience in a unionized environment.Experience with benefit administrationExperience with payroll accounting and P&L variance analysisProficient in MS Office ExcelExperience with training and supporting others, both bookkeepers / accountants and operation / nursing managers.Experience with payroll reporting to 3rd parties such as CRA and the Ministry of HealthExperience with payroll related reconciliations & analysis and accounts payableAbility to interpret Union contracts, Employment Standards Act, policies and procedures.Sense of responsibility, integrity, and confidentiality.Ability to multi-task.Well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact efficiently and courteously with residents, public, employees, and volunteers.Ability to demonstrate care in use of supplies and equipment, and the ability to maintain neat work area.Good organizational skills.Ability to work independently.Must be levelheaded and calm in emergencies.Second language an asset.Background in long-term care is an asset.Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain oneAs a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements.Two supervisory references are required.Travel is required.What do we offer you?
