Position / Person Summary :

CMH has a new and exciting digital health strategy focused on improving and implementing new applications as we advance towards a new Hospital Information System (HIS). To fulfill our objectives of growing our services to better meet the needs of our community transforming the way we work to create a more joyful and productive work environment leading boldly through preparation for our changing role and providing leadership in how care is provided in the community Cambridge Memorial Hospital must build a diverse health informatics team.

Clinical Informatics Specialists transform healthcare by analyzing designing implementing and evaluating information and communication systems that enhance individual and population health outcomes improve patient care and strengthen the clinician-patient relationship. The Clinical Informatics Specialist collaborates closely with the Information Technology Department Clinical Programs Professional Practice Health Records Quality and Risk and vendors to translate clinical needs into technical solutions.

Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Informatics the Clinical Informatics Specialist is a clinician with specialty knowledge in informatics who will lead digital health initiatives by successfully building inter-professional collaborations across programs in partnership with healthcare clinicians and Information Technology professionals to ensure adoption and sustained utilization of high-quality hospital information systems.

Responsibilities :

The Clinical Informatics Specialist for Oncology possesses strong leadership skills to successfully liaise and collaborate with other health care providers translate clinical needs to support technical workflows in Oracle Cerners PowerChart Oncology module.

The Clinical Informatics Specialist leads the transformation of clinical processes and workflows in collaboration with organizational and project leadership.

The Clinical Informatics Specialist draws on their oncology experience from the disciplines of medicine nursing pharmacy or allied health to represent inter-professional practice requirements for specialized clinical applications decision support tools and highly reliable data. The advance practice and academic credentials in a healthcare discipline coupled with informatics experience enable value added knowledge translation for clinical applications.

With the skill knowledge and judgement from the diverse domains within healthcare and information technology the Clinical Informatics Specialist effectively participates in the development and implementation of PowerChart - Oncology and leads customization workflow redesign and people and process change management ensuring successful implementation optimal adoption user proficiency and sustained utilization. Further to these responsibilities oversight of quality management is required to ensure quality data and realization of the technologies value propositions.

The Clinical Informatics Specialist applies project management skills to successfully monitor scope timelines deliverables and user expectations. They are skilled at monitoring scope creep while being receptive to high priority addition they recognize record mitigate and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.

This role will assist in ensuring that new clinical documentation technology is used appropriately established technical and quality standards are followed solutions are cost effective and the information needs of clients are met. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients staff and visitors.

Responsibilities also include the development and updating of policies and procedures pertaining to the use of PowerChart Oncology.

Skills and Qualifications

Education Requirements :

  • Regulated Health Professional with current registration / certificate of competence with applicable professional college required
  • Bachelors degree in a Clinical / Health Informatics field required.
  • Masters degree in a clinical / Health Informatics / Technology / Business field preferred
  • Certification in Clinical Informatics Project Management Change Management considered an asset
  • Experience Requirements :

  • At least 5 years progressive clinical experience
  • At least 3 years experience in a clinical informatics or related technology role
  • Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

  • Innovative and forward thinker with ability to implement and effectively lead change and process redesign. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in leading change and utilizing change management frameworks and tools
  • Highly effective communication skills utilizing established practices with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Solid understanding of the healthcare system and hospital sector
  • Highly effective collaborator and facilitator
  • Demonstrated understanding of how clinical requirements can translate into a technical solution
  • Demonstrated ability to research and assimilate a large quantity of diverse information
  • Knowledge of relational databases database management and data schemes
  • Evaluation quality management and continuous quality improvement experience
  • Understanding of marketing principles and commitment to customer service
  • Proficient organizational time management and critical thinking skills with the ability to effectively problem solve
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 suite products (Project Visio Access Excel Word PowerPoint SharePoint MS Teams)
  • Working knowledge of Crystal Report development and SQL query tools an asset
  • Familiarity with PHIPA and PIPEDA legislation RNAO Best Practice Guidelines Health Outcomes for Better Improved Care (HOBIC) workload measurement and other key clinical data points relevant to outcomes measures
  • Understands key information technology concepts and components (e.g. networks storage devices operating systems information retrieval data warehousing application firewalls etc.) and their inter-relationships
  • Demonstrates respect for the joint values and governance of integrated project teams
