Job description

In Your Role You Will

  • With the team, participate in assessing and planning for individuals in program; documents, implements and contributes to program evaluation.
  • Provide life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance; implements personal service plans.
  • Assist PS with activities of daily living such as hygiene, grooming and toileting.
  • Participate in various PS-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
  • Recognize, analyze, and deal with potential emergency situations such as PS aggressive behaviour according to PS Behaviour Safety Plan to ensure no harm comes to the PS and / or the public.
  • Administer medication to PS in accordance with established policy, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to PS and their families.
  • Transport and assist PS to attend appointments, shopping or leisure activities; operates motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting PS or on WJS business.
  • Perform residential maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services.
  • Maintain reports such as statistics, logs and daily activities relating to PS.
  • Utilize practices that promote health, welfare, safety and security of persons served.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.
  • Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

  • A diploma or degree in one of the humanities, social work or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of one year recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience, in a community based setting.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Other related fields of experience include Community Support Worker, Education Assistant, Special Needs, Behaviour Interventionist, Youth Worker
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle that has appropriate insurance
  • Other requirements :

  • Valid CPR / First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and / or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Physician’s note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Positive behavior supports experience
  • Successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening prior to confirmed employment with WJS Canada.
  • WJS adheres to provincial / legislated communicable disease prevention protocols. Some of our community health care providers / stakeholders may require WJS employees to be vaccinated in order to be able to enter establishments while supporting WJS individuals / clients in service.
