Job Summary
Do you want to apply your mathematics, forecasting, and problem-solving skills to complex aviation questions?
As a Research and Predictive Insights Analyst you will be part of a diverse team of analysts working to support NAV CANADA's core business functions and strategic initiatives.
You will be responsible for developing collision risk models, forecasting future air traffic growth, and flight patterns and predicting the effects of multiple critical uncertainties on key organizational performance indicators.
Through collaboration across NAV CANADA and with international working group, airlines, airports, and other industry partners, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of air navigation safety, service, and sustainability.

Job Description
Key Accountabilities :
- Represent NAV CANADA as a forecasting and mathematical modeling subject matter expert.
- Promote diversity of thought across the industry through research and collaboration.
- Research economic, environmental, and global aviation trends within Canada and internationally.
- Collaborate across NAV CANADA and the aviation industry on strategy development, goal setting, measurement, and benchmarking.
- Produce analytical reports and information with data obtained from internal and external sources and provide actionable insights.
- Research and provide comprehensive qualitative, quantitative, and predictive analysis on complex issues impacting financial and environmental sustainability, revenue, traffic, operational efficiency, and the delivery of air traffic services.
- Lead analytical process automation.
- Provide recommendations to senior management that have substantial influence on major decisions affecting strategic direction, aviation standards, policies, rules, and regulations.
- Lead collaborative activities on forecasting and analytics projects with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Requirements
Education :
- Bachelor's degree in a field such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or other relevant education.
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field considered an asset.
Experience :
- 8+ years of work experience in data analysis, forecasting and research; or any combination of education and experience which would provide a similar background.
- Experience in mathematical risk modeling
- Leadership experience mentoring junior analysts.
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative research and studies, analyzing and synthesizing results of findings and developing detailed summary reports and briefings.
- Experience developing and adapting forecasting and analysis models and methodologies.
- Experience building collaborative networks and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge :
- Knowledge of quantitative, qualitative and decision analysis forecasting methodologies.
- Thorough understanding of the techniques and practices of data collection, manipulation, and validation.
- Knowledge of statistical methods, data analysis and data visualization skills.
- Knowledge of desktop software and analytical tools and the ability to interpret and evaluate data for consistency.
- Advanced knowledge of simulation, complex problem solving, hypothesis testing, statistical modeling applications and forecasting methodologies.
- Knowledge of the aviation industry and Canada's Air Navigation System.
Abilities :
- Mathematical skills including econometric methods, linear optimization, operations research, data smoothing, uncertainty analysis.
- Ability to understand the implications of new data and information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Ability to identify complex problems, research and develop options and implement solutions within a broad range of subject areas.
- Ability to work with multiple data sets using various tooling, conduct analyses, and generate actionable insights.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, visually, and in writing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R, SQL and Python.

Working conditions :
- Travel may be required.
- This position is based at the Ottawa Head Office but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
