The Facility Maintenance Operator VI supports the day-to-day operation of a wide range of facilities by maintaining building systems, responding to service needs, and contributing to minor maintenance projects. Your key responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate routine work to maintain and operate various building systems.
- Administer minor maintenance projects and apply project management principles including cost estimates, site supervision, and progress monitoring.
- Operate and monitor simple mechanical systems such as domestic hot water, air handling systems, water treatment systems, and building management systems (BMS).
- Respond to maintenance requests from departments, tenants, and the public, conducting field inspections and troubleshooting issues proactively.
- Assist in maintaining the department's technical resources including facility maintenance software, drawings, key inventory, and compliance documentation.
- Provide on-site orientations and guidance to ensure safe work practices.
- Support Senior Facility Operators and HVAC Technicians with complex mechanical systems.
What you bring
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, ice refrigeration, aquatic facilities, and energy management systems.Familiarity with Alberta Building Code, construction practices, and quality control standards.Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and the City's Environmental Health and Safety Management Program.Experience with procurement, contract supervision, and contract administration.Proven project management, estimating, and scheduling skills.Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written).Proficiency in Microsoft Office and facility / building management software in a networked environment.Ability to work independently, use sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.Commitment to safety and continuous learning.Willingness and ability to respond to after-hours callouts or scheduled shift work.Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.5th Class Power Engineering Certificate from a recognized post secondary institution.Minimum one (1) year of current, directly related facility maintenance experience.Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.Willingness to pursue further certifications (e.g., BOMA / IFMA) through self-study courses.Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.Why join us?
