Canadian Banking Technology supports the end-to-end technology needs of Scotiabank's Canadian banking business, including a broad range of banking products and services from savings and chequing accounts to credit cards and commercial loans. Our team contributes to the overall success of the Day to Day Savings products in Canada, supporting the Business, Canadian Banking Regulatory and Compliance initiatives, performing development, design and deployment.
The Role :
Reporting to the Senior Manager Development, the Mainframe COBOL Developer will lead multiple development projects and be responsible for supporting application solutions for Canadian business line. The successful candidate will be partnering with multiple teams in delivering requirements for core regulatory and compliance platforms. - Act as an expert technical resource for problem analysis and solution implementation
- Support applications, evaluate problems, identify actions to be taken and recommend / implement solutions. Understand and work in accordance with Bank application architectural guidelines.
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Interact with business clients to help resolve and explain system questions and issues.
- Work closely with all team members and deal effectively with external vendors, Business partners, Internal stakeholders and Management
- Provide analysis and coding support for host applications and infrastructure implementations
- Must be fluent in English, oral and written, with excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills to understand, document and share key system information with their colleagues, support groups, other technical staff, business partners and management.

- Act as a mentor to junior developers on design, development, delivery, operations, and overall development best practices within the bank and industry.
- Implement new systems or enhancements by reviewing programs written by team members, establishing and executing system test procedures, developing implementation plan, developing the required program and system documentation and ensuring all functionality has been delivered as required. The incumbent is also required to provide ongoing support on the production processing functionality
- Requires to be on pager rotation for 24x7 for application support (overnight batch)
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
5+ years of experience in mainframe development complex programs using Cobol, JCL, IMS DB / DC, DB2, Netron, VSAM, CICS, CA7, SAS, SDSF.Experience with Security and environment control systems (Endevor, ACF2), Problem Analysis (Fault Analyzer), Database Management (e.g. IMS, DB2, VSAM)Experience in Utilities and productivity tools (e.g. MVS / TSO, UCANDU, ACR, COMPAREX, SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, CRF, File Manager and etc.) an assetExperience working in an agile environment and SDLC methodologyUnderstanding of File Transfer protocols and processes ie. FTP, SFTP, PGP EncryptionStrong knowledge of DB2 database, z / OS Debugger, DFSORT, JCL and COBOLUnderstanding mainframe integration for ETL processingExperience and knowledge of DevOpsExperience and knowledge of Assembly programming language an asset.Experience and knowledge of web services and APIs an assetExperience and knowledge of web and cloud (Azure) technologies an assetPrior experience in production supportFluent in English, oral and writtenUndergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or technical equivalentThe following skills are desirable :
