Senior Estimator
SENIOR ESTIMATOR
JOB SUMMARY
Prepare and / or coordinate complete estimates for assigned projects, including analyzing specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare estimates and preparing portions of contract proposal estimates, to include the determination of applicable project plans and specifications.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Coordinate total estimating effort relevant to a particular bid / project as assigned;
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate;
- Review schedule of projects being estimated;
- Organize Estimating Team to prepare bids, select vendors and / or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid;
- Perform or assist risk and contract management responsibilities as required;
- Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures;
- Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work;
- Consult with Clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues;
- Monitor Client addendum and advise the Estimating Team on changes during the estimate period;
- Prepare or assist bids, select vendors and / or subcontractors;
- May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials;
- Work with Company Employees, Owners and subcontractors to get commitment / consensus regarding proposed bids;
- Obtain knowledge of project and appropriate regulations required to construct the project;
- Review list of work to be performed by subcontractors;
- Review final estimate;
- Partner with other Estimators to turn project over to Operations Team;
- Follow awarded contracts as assigned may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits;
- Advise on major changes in scope of work;
- Monitor actual cost to estimated cost;
- Upon project completion, conduct debriefing with Estimating, Engineering and Operations Teams to discuss positive and negative aspects of the project;
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current / accurate information on prices from suppliers and subcontractors;
- Assist Pre-Construction Manager with performance reviews;
- Develop and brainstorm ideas and analyze best-value solution to pursue;
- Set productive, consistent, and acceptable work example;
- Maintain knowledge of Quattro Constructor’s Company Values and Strategic Plan;
- Support published Corporate Policies; and
- Perform additional assignments per Management’s direction.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
May supervise or mentor. May carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training Employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;
disciplinary actions; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required :
Education and / or Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Diploma in Civil Engineer Technology, or related field from an accredited institution;
- 8-10 years of proven estimating & cost control related experience in heavy civil construction projects;
- Construction, design, finance, and management experience in heavy civil construction required;
- Advanced knowledge in estimation software and tools (HCSS Heavy Bid is preferred);
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail;
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills; and
- Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines.
Certifications and / or Licensing Requirements
- Required Company or Regulatory Certifications; and
- Required Company Safety Certifications
LANGUAGE, MATH, AND REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents;
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or request for changes / claims from subcontractors, Management, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or Owners;
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format;
- Ability to effectively present information to Executive Management and / or public groups;
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals geometry and trigonometry;
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions furnished in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

- Working in an open workstation or office subject to office noise;
- Required to work in office environment;
- Travel to projects as needed;
- Visits to project sites involve exposure to outside weather elements; and
- The noise level in the work environment is typical of a professional office.
SALARY RANGE
$90,000 - $120,000 CAD / year
Salary will commensurate with education and experience.
