We also work with grocery retailers, mass merchandisers, drug channel, and food service customers across the country to create and produce a wide variety of private label branded products.

Overview : As the Maintenance Specialist, you will be required to repair and maintain industrial equipment to ensure a safe and reliable operation.

Shift : 6 : 45am to 3pm. Overtime as required, including some weekend work.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Practice safe work habits. Comply with all applicable legislative and Trophy Foods health and safety, food safety, LOTO and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Work within the maintenance department supporting the setup, changeover, and servicing of Superpans, drum coating machines, rotary pouch fillers, film packaging machines and downstream packaging equipment in both a mechanical and electrical capacity.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and participate in the optimization of the preventive strategy (i.e. frequency, content, etc.) by identifying new preventive / predictive opportunities with the goal of maximizing production uptime.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve equipment and process issues with team members to ensure immediate and long-term corrective actions while accurately maintaining work order records for both planned and reactive work.
  • Take a lead role during equipment shut down, overhaul, cleaning, and start up activities including acting as liaison with contractors to ensure Trophy best practices are being followed.
  • Create documentation to carry forward knowledge gained to decrease troubleshooting time in the future.
  • Aid in the development of the escalation process and defining escalation paths.
  • Interact with vendors to assist in parts clarification, root cause deep dives, documentation gaps, etc.
  • Ensure that work area is always clean of debris and hazards and check work area for such hazards upon arrival and when departing each area of work.
  • Interact with all employees in a positive manner and promote a co-operative working environment.
  • Daily operational checks of boilers, water softeners and chiller systems
  • Other duties as assigned throughout the entire facility.

Key knowledge areas include, but are not limited to :

  • Strong knowledge of pumps and gearboxes encompassing both rebuilding as well as validating and setting alignments
  • Experience with maintenance computer software as well as independence to accurately complete part requests.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics to determine layout of industrial mechanical equipment installations.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Maintain, test, and install electrical motors, alternators, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
  • Chocolate properties (temperature, pressure, flow, etc) are a key component to successfully managing the equipment. Understanding the effect of varying inputs and incorporating that into the troubleshooting strategy will be fundamental for this role.
  • Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements :

  • Must possess a license recognized as a trade in Ontario. Preference given to Millwright (433A) or Electrician (442A) license(s).
  • 1 to 3 years' industrial, electrical, or mechanical experience, preferably in food.
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills required (Word, Excel, Outlook primarily).
  • Refrigeration and / or boiler experience would be an asset.
  • Automation (PLC, VFD, Servo, HMI) experience would be highly desired.
  • Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to handle changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills that echo a procedure-based approach will be a core component of the job.
  • Physical Effort :

  • Almost continuously engaged in one or more physical activities simultaneously, occasionally required to sit. (E.g. Walking, lifting and carrying heavy objects that weigh around 25kg or more, reaching with hands and arms.)
  • Work Environment :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposure to factors such as humidity, noise level over 85dB (mandatory hearing protection on the plant floor) and moisture which will cause frequent periods of discomfort.
  • There is regular exposure to factors which carry an extreme risk of accident or illness which cannot be eliminated from the job.
  • The employee is expected to be flexible in terms of providing support and backup for functions outside of their job description and for working outside their normal working hours when necessary.
  • Sensory Attention :

  • Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to apply common sense to problems involving mathematical skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplication, and dividing and written or oral instructions.
  • Mental Stress :

  • There is noticeable pressure from deadlines, accuracy, or similar demands in a fast-paced environment.
