Position Overview

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of Encore Canada’s financial data. This includes auditing commission calculations, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, assisting with audit and tax preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. In addition to day-to-day functions, this role will take on special projects assigned by leadership in all areas of accounting to meet management’s needs. This position requires excellent communication skills as well as strong organization skills to successfully manage the monthly volume of transactions.

Key Job Responsibilities

Month End Close

  • Complete journal entries for all areas assigned, as required, within the close calendar deadlines.
  • Maintain schedules and post accruals for month end reporting, including revenue-based venue incentives.
  • Analyze results for all areas assigned to identify issues and contribute to a timely and appropriate resolution.

Account Analysis and Reconciliations

  • Research and analyze location income statement and general ledger accounts per requests from hotel directors and management.
  • Correct problems such as miscoding or improperly booked entries.
  • Perform account reconciliations for a portion of the balance sheet as assigned.
  • Support our customer base with reconciliation of commission for venues and third-party contracts.
  • Accounting Support

  • Perform other duties as assigned from the General Accounting Department.
  • Prepare select information for tax returns, assist with audit preparation as required.
  • Contribute to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
  • Support the maintenance of the financial and billing systems, including chart of accounts and commission structures.
  • Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of a BA in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in an accounting department.
  • Working knowledge of all accounting functions and related principles (including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and General Ledger).
  • Expert level working knowledge of Excel.
  • High level of detail and accuracy when responding to requests as well as financial reporting.
  • Completion or current enrollment in CPA program an asset.
