Summary

Reporting directly to the Director, Logistics, the Manager, Customs Compliance will be responsible for ensuring that customs processes and outputs are executed according in compliance with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) & US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) practices and regulations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON :

  • Point of contact for all duty and customs regulatory and compliance questions, concerns, issues, and required support

Triage, root cause corrective actions (RCCA), manage and track issues and tasks

  • Project subject matter expert (SME)
  • Design and implement improved processes across the organization related to customs, duties, and tariffs
  • Continuously measure and improve customs related processes across the business
  • Audit customs documents to ensure documents match our system of record
  • Own and manage Broker relationship
  • All inbound imports into Canada and export to US / rest of the world

  • Expedite the liquidation of custom entries, to clear old bonds and letter of credits
  • Work with broker to provide Harmonized System (HS) codes for new product launches
  • Compare US entries cleared by broker to imports into US
  • Identify process gaps and help resolve uncleared entries

  • Review data received from brokers for accuracy, completeness & timeliness
  • Analyze and update the HS codes on existing products with a high degree of accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze and update ADD and MID # codes with a high degree of accuracy and completeness
  • Support the and Canadian duty drawback processes
  • Work closely with the customs broker to ensure all documents and applications are completed correctly and in a way that limits any risks and exposure to Mevotech

  • Support Canadian Duty Deferral program with CBSA for sales in Canada
  • Finalize new custom bonds as needed, and subsequent letter of credits with the bank to support the bond
  • WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant customs experience (Broker and / or customs industry experience)
  • Minimum CCS designation
  • Strong knowledge of the customs tariff, duty drawback, HS codes and other federal and provincial government department regulations
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Relationship building

  • Highly proficient and accurate in oral and written output
  • Ability to perform duties efficiently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimum supervision
  • Problem solving and effective negotiating skills
  • Ability to responding to all inquiries from internal and external clients on all customs regulations
  • Maintaining and developing knowledge of importing and / or exporting rules, regulations, and laws
  • Intermediate / advanced excel skills
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Broker licenses considered a strong asset
