Backend Development Engineer Co-op (8 months - April 2026)

How You Will Contribute :

Responsible for coding, testing, verification, and maintenance. Capable of implementing significant portions of code based upon well-defined requirements, adhering to established standards of quality for documentation, coding and testing. Interacts well in a group, requiring some direction from manager and senior team members. Able to identify and act upon issues and problems that arise. We are looking for a software engineer to help develop Ciena’s next generation AI Assistant tools.

The Must Haves :

• Working towards a B.S. in Computer Science or related field
• Proficiency with Windows, macOS, or Linux. Knowledge of more than one platform preferable.
• Knowledge or proficiency in Web app development.
• A solid understanding of python and Internet technologies.
• Conversant about database methodologies and database systems an advantage.
• Willingness to learn new platforms, framework and technology as needed.
• A solid understanding of Ciena Planner Plus and relevant debugging techniques.
• Experience in applying knowledge of good coding practices and fundamental computer science principles.
• Ability to work in a team and take direction well.
• Self-motivated and responds to supervision. Asks relevant questions.
• Enthusiastic about company and programming company products.
• Can independently plan tasks and estimate their completion.
• Can adapt to changing conditions.

Pay Range : The hourly pay range for this position is $24.50 - $33.00

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
