Responsibilities
- Completes analyses of complicated accounting activities such as unbilled revenue and consumption, gas purchases and mitigation (commodity, storage, and transportation), gas sales and cost deferral accounts, natural gas transportation reports, rate riders, company use gas, motor fuel and, carbon tax) and ensures compliance with GAAP and BCUC orders / directives.
- Performs analyses of monthly revenue and sales margin, gas inventory, and customer accounts receivable aging, by performing various financial and statistical tests for reasonableness to ensure integrity of financial reporting.
Prepares reports for presentation to external auditors, BCUC and internal stakeholders.
- Examines and controls monthly general ledger (GL) balances and journal entries; performs analysis through financial tests for reasonableness;
- determines correct amounts and investigates reasons for anomalies; prepares reconciliations and associated working papers;
examines the requirement for, and arranges for, the establishment of new GL accounts.
- Develops and maintains reports and schedules for internal stakeholders, BCUC, external auditors and others to facilitate analysis and decision making.
- Researches, performs what if scenarios, analyses impact on FortisBC and makes recommendations to internal stakeholders on various accounting treatment options for revenues / costs.
- Assists in the preparation of financial reports prior to external release..
- Participates in the implementation of new or modified systems, methods and procedures such as integrating existing accounting systems with new ones, and training departmental staff on the procedural aspects of new systems.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
Requirements
- Completion of a degree from a recognized accredited institution.
- Completion of a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA).
- Three (3) years’ experience in accounting at a senior level with strong emphasis on financial analysis and in-depth understanding of accounting theory (GAAP).
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of ERP accounting systems (preferably SAP).
- Intermediate knowledge of computer systems and related programs including Excel.
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to respond to and resolve demanding problems, prepare documentation, discuss ideas and respond to management / auditor inquiries.
