Temporary position: 12 months contract
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will report to the Managing Legal Counsel – Business Services and collaborate with key sectors of the Bank such as:
- Personal services
- Business services
- Securities and Capital Markets
- Treasury and Procurement
In a context of transformation and transition related to the Bank's announcement of agreements concluded with Fairstone Bank and National Bank, you will provide essential legal and regulatory support to ensure business continuity and assist internal stakeholders in their daily activities. You will also play a central role in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing complex strategic agreements, while providing clear and tailored legal advice on business issues and transition imperatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal and regulatory support to the various sectors of the Bank
- Provide relevant, clear, and tailored legal recommendations to stakeholders and senior management in accordance with applicable laws, the Bank's internal policies, business requirements, legal risks, and market practices applicable to the commercial and/or financial sector, as well as under agreements with Fairstone Bank and National Bank
- Support the Bank's transition activities
- Participate in the Bank's strategic and regulatory initiatives
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating strategic outsourcing agreements, lease agreements and other complex agreement
- Manage the risks associated with the Bank's operations, products and services. .
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in law (LL.B., B.C.L. or J.D.)
- Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar
- At least 8 years of experience in private practice or in-house
- Expertise in contract drafting and negotiation
- Financial services industry experience
- Excellent analytical and legal drafting skills
- Proficiency in French and English, both oral and written*
- Strong executive presence and interpersonal skills
- Leads discussions with clarity and confidence
- Ability to balance business needs and legal risk
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
*Professional working proficiency in French and English languages required as position involves frequent written and oral communication on complex matters with internal and external parties in both languages.
