Job description

Position Summary

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation raises and stewards funds to support Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH). The Foundation’s mission is to support the Hospital in its quest to become a centre of excellence and an integral leader in shaping the future of healthcare for our community and our region.

Regional programs include the Kidney Care Program of Simcoe Muskoka, the Regional Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centre, the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre (SMRCC) Satellite Clinic, the Paediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) Satellite Clinic, the Regional Women and Children Program and the Level II Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

About the opportunity :

Reporting to the Director of Campaigns & Major Gifts, the Development Officer, Mid-Level Giving, secures philanthropic support from our mid-level donor community, by engaging them in the daily life and work at OSMH. The DO will focus on nurturing this vital group of supporters by personally investing in their donor experience and journey, while highlighting the incredible work of our medical colleagues. Collaborating with an integrated team of frontline fundraisers, hospital staff and volunteers, the DO contributes to building a strong culture of philanthropy and a sense of shared goals throughout the OSMH community.

The pay band for this position is $61,500 – $80,000, with three weeks’ vacation to start.

Key Accountabilities :

  • With guidance and support from the Director of Campaigns & Major Gifts, the Development Officer, Mid-Level Giving, maps the donor journey for our constituents giving in the $1,000 to $9,999 range by creatively engaging, inspiring and growing their connection to and support for OSMH.
  • Works closely with colleagues across the Foundation to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective donors with the capacity to make a mid-level gift.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, accountability, empathy and creativity when developing and nurturing relationships.
  • Works in partnership with the Stewardship & Planned Giving Coordinator to provide a customized donor experience and to create a positive donor journey for mid-level donors.
  • Actively engages with a portfolio of prospective and current supporters through hospital tours, in-person meetings, phone visits, written communications and Foundation events.
  • Plans, schedules and conducts solicitation meetings, provides briefing support for senior volunteers, hospital partners, the Director of Campaigns & Major Gifts.
  • Supports and collaborates with Events colleagues to ensure that donor interactions are strategically-focused, donor-centric and led by the Relationship Manager.
  • Implements agreed-upon metrics, using Raisers’ Edge to track all donor and prospect activity.
  • Participates in regular performance evaluations with the Director of Campaigns & Major Gifts.
  • Consistently and convincingly demonstrates to Foundation colleagues, volunteers and the public-at-large, the role and importance of philanthropy and the Foundation’s mandate.
  • Embeds diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging values into all activities.
  • Qualifications

  • University or College degree in an appropriate discipline, or professional experience equivalent, combined with 5 years of fundraising or transferable experience.
  • CFRE certification an asset, or willingness to obtain a fundraising certification.
  • Direct experience and demonstrated success in managing relationships with key stakeholders such as donors, volunteers, hospital staff, senior leadership, and external partners.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and be flexible with changing priorities.
  • Experience in writing proposals and other persuasive documents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working productively and positively with senior level staff and volunteers.
  • Superior listening skills and the ability to interpret the concerns and interests of potential stakeholders and translate them into attractive opportunities for investment in Soldiers’ priorities.
  • Must have demonstrated work experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint as well as Raiser’s Edge fundraising software (or equivalent).
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, and has a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, while working within the framework of an integrated development program and team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment and success in working to create a fair and inclusive environment, and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
  • Knowledge of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, and / or healthcare fundraising.
