Position Overview
The Activity / Recreation Worker promotes the overall quality of life for clients in health care facilities (hospitals, transitional care centres and personal care homes). The incumbent exercises a moderate level of initiative and independent judgment to determine work priorities, methods, and actions on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of Southern Health‑Santé Sud.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and implement recreational and therapeutic activities for older adults.
- Adapt activities to meet the varied needs of clients, including those with cognitive impairment or other health conditions.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports in accordance with policy.
- Ensure a safe, welcoming environment and adhere to all health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support client care and wellbeing.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant experience preferred.Experience working with an older adult population.Education & Credentials
Grade 12 education required.Recognized Therapeutic Recreation / Activity Programming certificate or equivalent required.Completion of at least four courses of the “Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults” programme (Red River College) or equivalent :RECF‑1045 Foundation to Therapeutic RecreationRECF‑1046 TR Leisure ConceptsRECF‑1047 TR Cognitive ImpairmentRECF‑1051 Documentation SkillsCertified Food Handler certificate.Certification / Licensure

Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population.Proficiency in both English and French (bilingual).Confidentiality skills in paper, electronic and other formats.Good work and attendance record.Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean record; personal vehicle and liability insurance (minimum USD 1,000,000) required.Valid Class 4 driver’s licence (site dependent).Physical Requirements
Physical and mental ability to perform job duties.No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.Occasional evenings and weekends as needed.Travel to other regional facilities may be required.Application Notes
