Responsibilities As a Winter Tractor Operator, you will be responsible for operating tractors with snow plow attachments to clear residential and commercial properties, ensuring they remain safe and accessible during winter storms. You will also perform shoveling and other snow removal tasks as needed. The role requires basic maintenance of trucks and plows, including greasing, fluid changes, and general mechanical upkeep using hand tools. You will communicate regularly with the team through cell phone apps and group chats, follow all safety procedures, and be available for all snow events. Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work in winter conditions are essential, as is the flexibility to continue work into the summer season if required. Requirements We are looking for a dependable, mechanically-minded individual with experience operating tractors equipped with snow plow attachments. You must have a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and a verified clear criminal background check. Own transportation with reliable winter tires or all-wheel drive is required, along with a cell phone capable of team communication and app use. The role requires CSA-approved winter-lined steel-toed boots (hi-vis gear provided) and the ability to dress appropriately for winter conditions. You should be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely in challenging winter weather. Basic mechanical skills and the ability to perform routine maintenance on trucks and plows using hand tools are essential.
