Position Summary :
The Senior Accountant, Finance will be part of BAM’s Corporate team and will report into the Manager, Finance. Located in our head office in Downtown Toronto, the Senior Accountant role is a highly visible position that provides a solid foundation and exposure to a progressive and dynamic career with a leading global asset management firm.
The Senior Accountant will actively participate in the financial accounting, analysis, and reporting of BAM’s corporate operations, and work with various internal stakeholders and teams to identify and implement key improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities :
The responsibilities for this position would include, among other things :
Take the lead on executing the monthly and quarterly financial close process for a number of complex subsidiaries and legal entities and identify opportunities to implement practical changes to drive improvements and efficiencies, including;
Preparing and executing on complex accounting steps and transactions
Preparing the consolidation and summarized financial results for various groups of companies on a quarterly and annual basis for internal management reporting and regulatory requirement
- Leading the process of recording routine and non-routine journal entries;
- Preparing monthly reconciliations including analysis of intercompany balances;
- Leading quarterly intercompany billings;
- Compile working papers for internal / external audit requests;
- Prepare various quarter-end and year-end accruals and entries;
Prepare various analyses for internal management reporting and regulatory requirements
Collaborate regularly with operating business groups and various Brookfield departments
Provide training and guidance to co-op students and new hires;
Assist with process documentation and continuously look for improvements to our processes, tools and reports and make suggestions to implement these into our deliverables
Participate in ad-hoc analyses and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements :
Three to five (3-5) years of progressive work experience in a corporate accounting and finance function
A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA)
Strong financial systems experience, including advanced Excel skills
Leadership and interpersonal skills, and the willingness to always support the team
Highly organized and able to work in a dynamic, complex and fast-paced environment, as well as adapt quickly to manage changing priorities and competing deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as posses a high level of attention to detail
Self-motivated and pro-active, with respect to both managing workload and timelines
Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics would be an asset
Experience with accounting and reporting under an IFRS framework
