POSITION SUMMARY
Are you looking to gain hands-on experience in the IT field? The Summer Student position as a Systems Officer offers an exciting opportunity to develop your technical skills and knowledge. Working under the direction of the Information and Technology Services Supervisor, you will assist with maintaining, supporting, and troubleshooting the agency’s technology systems, including software, hardware, and networks. This position will give you the chance to work on meaningful projects, build valuable technical expertise, and contribute to the smooth operation of our agency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide technical support to staff experiencing issues with agency software, hardware (PCs, laptops, tablets, cell phones, and servers), computer networks, and audiovisual equipment (e.g., scanners, digital cameras, teleconferencing equipment, and printers).
- Install and support network and computer hardware, software, cabling, and peripherals.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on systems and equipment as needed.
- Assist in maintaining the agency's database system and security software (e.g., Windows, MS Server, SharePoint, and Exchange server).
- Perform regular file backups and assist with recovery efforts as required (e.g., AppAssure Replay).
- Prepare and deliver orientation for staff on the use of designated software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Assist in researching and evaluating new software and hardware solutions to ensure cost-effective options.
- Support remote access, internet security, and virtual private networks.
- Configure, maintain, and support telephone and building security systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS :
Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements :Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada.Must be available to work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. for the full 16-week term.Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program related to Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.Basic understanding of the agency's values, service philosophy, and objectives.Familiarity with computer software and hardware (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, general computer troubleshooting, mobile devices).Basic knowledge of mobile technologies (Android and Apple smartphones and tablets).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn quickly.Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to share knowledge clearly.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others in a team environment.Ability to maintain confidentiality of agency and client information.Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to the success of the team.A valid Class “G” Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.Ability to travel within the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin as needed.A Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, is required.EQUITY AND INCLUSION :
