Job Description
The position of Freight / Vessel Operator will be based out of LDC’s new Freight representative office in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and will have the opportunity to join one of the major global drybulk freight operators, shipping 55 million tons of cargoes per year, concentrating integrated activities of chartering, trading and market analysis. LDC has an integrated team that looks forward to nurturing its next “all-rounder” with a rewarding and visible career within a high-performance organization.
Responsibilities
- Communicate and liaise with vessel owners / masters / charterers / agents, trading team and other relevant stakeholders
- Responsible for following up on post fixture activities
- Basic understanding of Stowage Plan, intake optimization
- Bunkering, ensure close collaboration with bunker desk to successfully manage bunker planning
- Voyage Optimization & vessel performance with assistance from 3rd party Routing providers
- Understanding principles of Voyage Profit & Loss
- Knowledge of main charter party clauses
- Manage assigned external relations with customers and / or vendors
- Ensure vessels quick turnaround in port by liaising with local agents
- Prepare and ensure freight and hire are paid / received in a timely manner
- Ensure and champion a close and harmonious working relationship with the relevant Commercial team
- Collaborate effectively with other Freight Platform desks
- Updating and full utilization of digital tools IMOS, Sedna etc.
Qualifications / Experience
Must have post-secondary education in Shipping, Commerce, or Economic studies3-8 years of previous work experience as an Operator of Time Charter dry bulk vesselPrevious work experience at Sea on dry bulk vessels is preferredPrevious work experience with Parcelling is preferredHigh level of commitment on Compliance aspects and work ethicsMust have exceptional and demonstrated customer or supplier relationship skillsStrong numerical, analytical and logical-thinking skillsTechnologically proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) as well as Shipping systems (IMOS, Sedna, DA Desk).Possesses an interest in and aptitude for people managementCustomer-focused with exceptional and demonstrated relationship-building skills, particularly with key accounts (Internal Customers and ship owners)Accountability and strong sense of ownership, interdependence and collaborativeExceptional verbal and written communication skills, and continuous communication with internal and external stakeholders,Team player with a strong desire to collaborate with different departments, team members, countries, functions, etc.Proven negotiating and problem‑solving skillsAble to thrive in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining adaptability and flexibilityExceptional time management and multitasking skillsPersonal drive and the ability to motivate othersInnovative and motivated self‑starter who has the ability to motivate othersHas a willingness to learn and a passion for continuous improvementsAdditional Information
