The Hiab Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a truck-mounted crane (Hiab) to transport, load, and unload heavy goods. This role requires adherence to traffic and safety regulations, route optimization, and the proper maintenance of both vehicle and crane. The Hiab Operator interacts with clients, logistics staff, and other team members to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

Your day-to-day will look like :

  • Operate a Hiab crane safely and efficiently to load, transport, and unload goods.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle and crane, documenting findings and reporting issues to the appropriate parties.
  • Deliver products to various locations within the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, ensuring safe and timely deliveries.
  • Plan and optimize delivery routes to maximize efficiency and minimize travel time.
  • Secure loads safely and ensure compliance with all weight, height and balance regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the vehicle and crane, performing routine maintenance checks as required.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members to coordinate deliveries and address any concerns.
  • Adhere to company policies, safety protocols, and applicable traffic laws.
  • Complete required delivery paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.

You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills :

Qualifications :

  • Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean, accident-free record.
  • Minimum HIAB "B" certification and crane experience / certification.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a commercial driver.
  • Physical fitness and ability to handle manual tasks.
  • Considered an asset : Familiarity with crane technology and advanced safety features.Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate delivery schedules.
  • Experience delivering to construction sites or remote locations.

    Technical Skills :

  • Proficient in operating truck-mounted cranes, specifically Hiab systems.
  • Strong knowledge of the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island routes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance tasks.
  • Expertise in loading and unloading heavy goods safely and securely.
  • Interpersonal Skills
