New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule :   5x2, Monday- Friday

Position Reports To :  IT Supervisor

Position Overview :  We currently have an exciting opportunity for a student to join our New Afton team for an 8 or 12 month work term commencing in September 2024. This position will provide support to the IT Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the IT Supervisor, the IT Systems Co-op Student works as a team member in the effective installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of systems and communications hardware, software and related infrastructure.
  • The successful applicant will aid in ensuring reliable, stable operation of on-site systems and communications using leading edge technologies & software.
  • This individual will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
  • The successful applicant will gain experience with enterprise grade systems including HyperV, Cisco unified communications, Windows Server, Microsoft O365, Sharepoint. Microsoft Azure, Exchange 2016 / Exchange Online, ERP solutions, site security, CCTV video, collaboration / messaging solutions amongst other things.
  • Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a program with a Computer Science and / or Information Systems Technology focus;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with documented experience in industry related fields or with working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products (not limited to) Active Directory, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Windows 10, Office, Office 365;
  • Strong communication skills and customer service orientation is required.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and root-cause determination skills are considered an asset.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage numerous projects in a time sensitive manner is essential.
  • Must have access to personal transportation and be eligible to drive in Canada.
  • Must provide proof of confirmation of valid educational requirements and transcripts.
  • Other Requirements

    Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including :

  • Completion of pre-placement functional screen
  • Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
  • Compensation

    The anticipated salary for this position will be between $52,000 to $64,480. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
