Under the leadership of the Senior engineering manager, the reliability engineer will improve the reliability of VIA Rail's off‑corridor fleet systems. He will optimize maintenance operations to ensure equipment availability. With their engineering knowledge and team support, they lead their projects to completion.

Responsibilities

• Implement appropriate changes to maintenance, repair, operation and purchasing practices, and determine the proper use of condition-based, time / use-based, and fault‑finding maintenance practices.
• Propose and evaluate configuration changes to improve safety, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness, and develop and review specifications for repairs.
• Maximize the reliability and cost‑effectiveness of rolling stock systems and components by developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reliability and cost targets, and analysis methodologies to measure these elements.
• Acquire and analyze reliability and cost data, prepare diagrams, charts, calculations and reports to monitor trends, define problems, and identify opportunities to improve safety and reliability while reducing costs.
• Use simulation tools and statistical techniques to analyze data.
