What is the Opportunity?
AUE is seeking a GIS Technician to support telecom and utility projects through precise spatial data collection, asset digitization, and map production. You'll work with tools like ArcGIS and AutoCAD to ensure data accuracy, streamline workflows, and contribute to design, permitting, and construction efforts.
What You'll Do Here
Collect spatial data using LiDAR, GPS, and RTK / GNSS-enabled devices; validate positional accuracy and required attributes.
Configure and use ArcGIS Field Maps / Survey123 for mobile data capture.
Digitize and attribute telecom assets (i.e., ducts, cables, splice points, closures, poles) from design drawings, redlines, locates, and as-built markups.
Ingest and reconcile field data (photos, forms, GPS points / lines) with design and permitting layers; flag discrepancies for resolution.
Complete topographical map deliverables for utility projects using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ESRI software.
Build and maintain feature services, geodatabases, and map products (static and web) to support planning, design, permitting, and construction.
Publish and version datasets; manage domains, subtypes, and symbology per client standards.
Produce web maps and dashboards (i.e., ArcGIS Dashboards) for tracking progress and supporting decisions.
Run topology and validation checks; resolve geometry and attribute errors.
Maintain data lineage, audit logs, and ensure compliance with standards.
Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of deliverables.
Coordinate with Project Designers, CAD, Field / GIS, and Permitting teams to align schedules and ensure timely updates.
Identify opportunities to streamline data flows (i.e., CAD / BIM-to-GIS conversion, ABD / AUD export / ingest).
Contribute to GIS standards, templates, and job aids; share tips and lightweight tools / scripts to improve efficiency.
Promote an inclusive culture by welcoming diverse perspectives and fostering a sense of belonging.
Support conversion of LiDAR data to digital platforms for accessibility and review.
Perform other duties as required.
What You Bring to the Team
Minimum 1–2 years of experience with ESRI and AutoDesk platforms.
Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS (Pro, Enterprise, Online), Survey123, Field Maps, and MS Office; familiarity with data modeling, domains / subtypes, and topology rules.
Strong understanding of site plans and utility project workflows.
Post-secondary education in GIS, Geomatics, or Field Technologies preferred.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills; able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Self-motivated and adaptable; eager to learn new skills and take on responsibilities in a collaborative team environment.
Clear communicator who works effectively with both field and office teams; committed to safety and continuous improvement.
Experience with utility projects is considered an asset.
