MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an P&C Electrical Engineer for our client, a leading public utility organization delivering large-scale transmission and substation infrastructure projects across British Columbia.
This is a full-time, opportunity based in Burnaby , BC , supporting medium-complexity engineering assignments within transmission station design and operations.
Location : Burnaby, BC
Key Responsibilities
Develop safe and effective engineering solutions for medium-complexity transmission station projects.
Perform engineering design, analysis, and interpretation of specifications.
Support project teams in achieving safety, cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
Recommend design improvements, cost adjustments, and contractor payments.
Prepare progress reports and coordinate work schedules.
Resolve complex technical and field engineering challenges through independent study and analysis.
Contribute to technical standards development and engineering best practices.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineering professionals.
Technical Scope
Design for electrical systems related to Transmission Stations , including :
Ground grid systems
Site layout and equipment clearances
Control, feeder, and compressor buildings
Electrical equipment supports
Perform engineering calculations such as :
Short-circuit force analysis
Ampacity calculations
Cable design
Lightning protection design
Voltage drop calculations
Indoor and outdoor lighting design
Required Qualifications
Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience .
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized Canadian university.
Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
Strong understanding of Protection & Control (P&C) fundamentals related to utility substations and transmission lines.
Demonstrated experience developing P&C design, planning, and maintenance standards.
Experience improving reliability and safety using risk and mitigation principles.
Working knowledge of risk-based maintenance strategies.
Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards.
Proficiency with standard industry design and analysis software.
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Intermediate professional English (written and spoken).
Professional Practice Requirements
Prior to assignment start, the selected candidate must hold their own sole practitioner Permit to Practice with EGBC, or operate under their firm’s Permit to Practice.
The Registrant must apply their own or their firm’s Permit to Practice Number to all sealed work.
Work will be performed under the client’s Professional Practice Management Plan and Quality Management framework.
Project documentation will be retained by the client in accordance with EGBC Bylaws.
The role may require subscription to a digital sign and seal technology service (e.g., Notarius).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with IEEE 61850 and digital substation applications.
Experience contributing to enterprise technical standards.
Strategic mindset with strong analytical and independent problem-solving abilities.
