Our client is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst (Accountant, 5+years) to accurately analyze operational revenues and expenses, provide variance analysis, and prepare annual external financial statements within the utilities industry.
Responsibilities :
- Provide input to the Financial Reporting, Operations Accounting and Regulatory & Forecast plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions.
- Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics by producing accurate and timely reports on financial information.
This includes monthly, quarterly and year end completion and reporting for corporate reporting while ensuring that Corporate and Business Unit financial deadlines are met.
Provide pro-forma analysis of revenues and expenses by level to Operations’ Directors and Managers to support decision making.
This includes facilitating and providing guidance on variances to budget, as well as processing journal vouchers, analyzing and correcting transaction coding errors, and imports for project transfers and vendor allocations.
- Provide direct support and reporting to managers and directors for the accumulation of budget inputs used to complete budget, forecasts and regulatory filings.
- Leading preparation of annual financial statements and note disclosures, including ensuring the adequacy of financial statements disclosure against IFRS disclosure requirements.
- Analyze intercompany transactions to ensure that they have been coded correctly and resolve any discrepancies with affiliates prior to Corporate Finance deadline.
This includes reviewing balance sheet and income statement balances are within acceptable threshold.
- Work with affiliates to complete the forecast of intercompany transactions and Service Level Agreements. Additionally, supporting compilation of year end affiliate reporting requirements for submission to the Alberta Utilities Commission.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare variance explanations for month-end. This may include ad-hoc analysis of budget to actuals utilizing multiple systems (Adaptive, Oracle, IVARA)
- Contributing to the ongoing process improvement initiative and assist with special projects as required including but limited to providing input and support for software system upgrades or replacements as well as purchase order clean-ups.
- Researching appropriate accounting standards and developing recommendations on moderately complex accounting policies under IFRS accounting standards.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Finance’s regulatory reporting processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Work in cross-functional groups on projects as required.
Must Have
- 5+ years as a Financial Analyst (Accountant)
- IFRS knowledge
- University degree in Business, Finance or Accounting

- Oracle BI for financial reporting / Oracle financial systems
- Alberta local
- Regulated experience (public sector, crown corp, or utilities)
