Position Summary

The Design Detailer is responsible for finalizing production-ready drawings and documentation for custom case goods. Collaborating closely with the Product Designer, Production Manager, and the Sourcing and Planning Specialist, the Design Detailer ensures that all technical details, BOMs, CNC files and drawings are accurate and optimized for manufacturing. This role is critical in streamlining the transition from design to production, helping bring high-quality furniture to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Product Designer and Project Manager to receive approved shop drawings and translate them into detailed, production-ready CNC files, and 3D CAD drawings.
  • Finalize technical drawings, CNC-ready file formats, ensuring all dimensions, materials, and assembly details are accurate and manufacturable.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager to ensure manufacturability and construction methodologies are met.
  • Update and refine drawings as necessary to meet production requirements or address feedback from the production team.
  • Use Mastercam software to nest and output CNC files to production machinery.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOM) for each project.
  • Work closely with the Sourcing and Planning Specialist to expedite projects into production.
  • Act as a liaison between the Production and Design teams. Ensuring design is met with floor construction possibilities.
  • Ensure all design files and documentation are organized and stored according to company standards.
  • Occasionally perform sheet good takeoff to provide accurate material purchasing by the Sourcing and Planning Specialist.
  • Research and recommend materials, hardware, and finishes as needed to align with project specifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Furniture Making, Industrial Design, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Proficiency in CAD software, with strong experience in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in CNC output software, with strong experience in Mastercam.
  • Background in custom furniture detailing or manufacturing, particularly in case goods, millwork and / or store fixtures.
  • Strong understanding of furniture and / or millwork construction methods, materials, and production workflows.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to create accurate, high-quality technical drawings.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with internal teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
