About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Business Intelligence Product Developer to join our dynamic IT Center for Excellence team.
The IT Center for Excellence Team has a vision to gain clarity, confidence, and tools to use deep analysis, modelling, agility and forecasting to inform decision-making, maintain a healthy donor population, and improve patient outcomes with the overall goal of helping the health systems operate more efficiently to derive the best quality and value.
In this role, you will harness data for advanced mathematical programming, statistical modelling, and simulation modelling to generate insights and decision-making tools.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Data & Analytics Centre for Excellence, the Business Intelligence Product Developer brings profound expertise in creating advanced visualizations and interactive applications, essential for informed decision-making and translating knowledge.
The role supports the data solution delivery aspect and plays a critical role in advancing the Centre for Excellence’s (CoE) key modelling initiatives, translating complex data science projects into actionable insights for operational decision-makers.
Formula for success
- Leveraging your skills in business intelligence, you will define and refine products related to the Healthy Donor Base Analytics & Modeling strategic initiative, creating actionable analytical solutions that drive business value.
- Utilizing your expertise in solution delivery and data visualization, you will highlight the capabilities of analytics to business users, ensuring they understand how to leverage data insights effectively.
- Harnessing your knowledge in business intelligence architecture, you will design and implement product solutions that encompass glossaries, data visualizations, methodological approaches, and deployment strategies to enhance decision-making.
- Employing your analytical skills, you will generate data-driven features that distill business-relevant concepts, enabling more informed and effective decision-making processes across the organization.
- Collaborating with domain experts, you will integrate business intelligence products into decision-making frameworks and tools, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and operational needs.
- Applying your skills in conceptual modeling, you will interpret and transform business requirements into detailed conceptual models and prototypes, providing clarity and structure to complex data.
- Translating complex data models into interactive tools, you will foster consensus and understanding among stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and technical expertise levels.
- Driving thought leadership, you will engage in or facilitate knowledge-sharing activities to advance organizational understanding and drive innovation within the business intelligence space.
- Partnering with stakeholders and leadership, you will help shape, propel, and socialize analytical products that align with organizational goals, ensuring successful adoption and integration of business intelligence solutions.
Desired education and skills
Post secondary degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering or related field;
an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in BI development, with a strong record of accomplishment of working on data visualization projects.
- Proven experience in handling, analysing, and visualizing data.
- Proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI etc.
- Advanced skills in creating complex and interactive data visualizations.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with other programming languages such as Python, R, or JavaScript, especially for data manipulation and preparation.
- Experience with database management systems like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases.

What you can expect
- This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time / 2 days of the week.
- You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
- If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa 2540 Lancaster Rd, twice quarterly for in-person team meetings when required.
