Posting Information Posting Number CK53911P Position Title Transportation Engineer No. of Staff Required 1 Position Type FT If Term position, enter length of Term in months N / A Position Groups Management and Exempt Division Infrastructure (DV220) Department Integrated Transportation (DP185) Department Name Branch Transportation Engineering (BR192-1) Organizational Information Purpose of your Position - Non Union The Transportation Engineer Safety and Systems is responsible for a systems approach to traffic safety and operations, traffic signal, street lighting planning and engineering duties related to intersection configuration, signal phasing, and design, and implementation of detailed and complex signal timing plans. This position manages inquiries from the public, staff and other organizations or agencies related to safety policies plans and projects, intersection analysis, signals and street lighting; production of capital plans related to operations; maintenance and upgrading of systems; ITS systems planning and management; financial management of the function; and coordination with technical and operations staff. As part of the engineering team of the Integrated Transportation Department, this position provides expert advice to programs such as Safe Routes to School and provides expertise to the Infrastructure Division overall in a variety of transportation related analysis. 2. Management of safety policies, plans and projects and its relationship to traffic operational planning, traffic signals, roundabouts and street lighting in a multi-modal context :
3. Responds / supervise customer service enquiries related to traffic signals, street lighting, multimodal safety, and traffic calming, and crosswalks warrant requests.
4. Management and planning of transportation systems, signals and street lighting in a multi-modal safety context :
5. Responsible for traffic signals and ITS (Intelligent transportation systems) related design, operating standards and best practices

Credentials - Union Knowledge - Non Union Engineering Degree ideally with post-secondary degree in Transportation Engineering with experience in traffic safety, traffic and signals operations & / or ITS Systems. Traffic engineering courses & certificates for intersection capacity, synchronization of traffic signals & traffic flow (Synchro / Sim Traffic), Intelligent Transportation Systems, Traffic Signals coordination, traffic control specifications, budget planning and control.
Superior organizational and traffic engineering skills. Knowledge of all aspects of road safety traffic control & engineering design, principles of ITS architecture and street lighting. Knowledge & experience in legislative areas : Provincial Motor Vehicle & BC MVA Regulations), City Traffic Bylaw, Transportation Association of Canada.
P.Eng. designation from APEGBC is required, EIT designation with experience might be acceptable as a training opportunity. Special Instructions to Applicant Additional Hiring Information The annual salary for this position ranges from $102,000 to $119,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Most candidates can expect to start in the lower to mid-range of this scale, with opportunities for salary growth based on performance and tenure.
