As part of their commitment to ensuring operational excellence, Malahat SkyWalk is seeking a Maintenance Manager to oversee the efficient and safe operation of all facilities.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role will focus on leading a small maintenance team, managing preventative maintenance programs, and ensuring the successful execution of capital projects. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines technical expertise with team development and administrative acumen.

About You

You are a seasoned maintenance professional with a proven track record of leadership and technical expertise. You excel in environments that require both hands-on problem-solving and strategic oversight. With a strong background in preventative maintenance, safety compliance, and team management, you thrive in dynamic and operationally complex roles.

You bring a collaborative and safety-first mindset to your work, ensuring that both infrastructure and team members are set up for success. Your ability to balance technical skills with effective communication makes you an excellent leader who can mentor a team while delivering operational excellence.

In addition, you are comfortable working in a 24 / 7 operation and can adapt to the demands of weekends, after-hours responsibilities, and being on call for emergencies. You understand the unique challenges of ensuring operational continuity in a guest-facing environment and are prepared to address issues swiftly while maintaining a positive visitor experience.

Responsibilities

  • Budget Management : Assist with budget planning, track expenditures, and prioritize cost-effective solutions.
  • Administrative Management : Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Utilize tools like SmartSheet to document and improve operational efficiency.

Desired Qualities, Expertise and Experience

  • Leadership Experience : At least five years in maintenance management roles, preferably in dynamic environments like hotels, ski resorts, outdoor tourism attractions, or construction.
  • Technical Knowledge : Ability to read and interpret as-built drawings. Proficient with project management software like SmartSheet; familiarity with CMMS software is an asset.
  • Certifications : Fall protection and mobile equipment training required; certification in high ropes (SPRAT / IRATA) is desirable.
  • Safety Orientation : Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC regulations and safe work practices.
  • Budgeting Skills : Experience managing budgets and tracking expenditures.
  • Trail Maintenance : Experience building or maintaining trails would be an asset.
  • Heavy Machinery : Experience using and working with heavy machinery such as excavators and skid steers is an asset.
  • Physical Requirements : Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in various weather conditions including snow, and perform tasks in challenging spaces.
  • Location

This position is located on Southern Vancouver Island and requires a consistent presence on site. Living in or around the area will be necessary.

    Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $86,000 to $96,000 annually, depending on experience and reflecting the on-call nature of the role and the requirement to work one weekend day per week.
